Karen Fisher has been a school board member for 41 of the past 43 years. The first eight years were at Milton Pope School. The rest have been at Ottawa High. During her two years when she wasn’t a board member, she was president of the Illinois Association of School Boards. She got a Legacy Member award this week from that organization.
Many people don’t pay attention to school boards and don’t even know who’s on them. Fisher says to her that means they’re not too concerned about things, because they definitely show up when they have complaints.
