LaSalle County residents in unincorporated areas can save 10% on their flood insurance policies. That’s because the county continues to participate in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Community Rating System. Land Use Director Brian Gift says it’s a voluntary incentive that encourages community floodplain management practices. He says the county is taking steps to help people in a floodplain.

Currently the county is ranked at a Class 8, which means the county is doing a little more than the minimum requirements of the National Flooding Insurance Program. Gift says more funding and staff would be required to try and bring the rating down to a Class 1, which is the best an county can do.

You can find more information about what the county is doing about flood mitigation at the LaSalle County Land Use Department website.
