The intersection of Main, Commercial, and Broadway Streets in Marseilles is open to the public. City Engineer Mike Etscheid says made the announcement last night. The city hired D-Construction realign Commercial and Broadway Streets to make it easier for semis to turn because they were getting stuck in the intersection. Etscheid says he understands there was some controversy about how long it took to get the project done. But it’s because the streets are made out of concrete and not asphalt.
The city paid about $530,000 for the project with help from some federal grants. They also replaced over 100 year old water mains in the area and added new gas mains. Etscheid also says there is some landscaping work that needs to be done in the area. That work probably won’t start until spring.
