Oglesby commissioner wants clearer fine schedule for false fire alarms

Oglesby City Commissioner Terry Eutis thinks the ordinance about false fire alarms needs some tweaking. He says one business has had multiple fire alarms over the last month. It’s straining the volunteer fire department.

The Oglesby city code calls for fines of $25 to $100. Eutis doesn’t think it’s clear enough. He’d like to rewrite it so violators know what to expect. He suggests after two false alarms the owner should be fined $50 for the third problem, $100 for the second, and higher each time.
