In Local Sports, tonight right here on 1430 WCMY and 93.5 FM the Marquette Crusaders will take on the Lasalle-Peru Cavaliers at the Colmone Classic at Hall High School. Tip off will be at 7 with the broadcast beginning at 6:50. In girls high school hoops on Saturday Streator fell to Plano 69-37. Cailey Gwaltney led the way for Streator with 11 points. Serena defeated Henry 40-7. Jenna Setchell led the way with 15 points and Paisley Twait added 14 points in the victory for Serena. The Ottawa Lady Pirates defeated Morris 50-22. Marlie Orlandi led the way with 13 points for the Pirates. Grace Carroll added 10 points as well in the victory for Ottawa. In boys high school hoops action, Serena defeated Earlville 44-36. Richie Armour and Cam Figgins both scored 13 apiece in the victory. The Marquette Crusaders were victorious over the Mendota Trojans on Saturday 58-36. Griffin Walker led the way with 16 points for the Crusaders. Krew Bond added 13 as well in the victory for the Crusaders. In other local sports, The Ottawa Dolphins swim team took first place in their meet on Saturday. Winners included, Maya Burke, Lucas Farabaugh Cole Bressendorf, Addisyn Budnick, Ethan Farabaugh, Kailey Goetsch, Ryland Heaver, Adam Hodgson, Breckyn Jobst, Lily Miller, Lily Mustered, Quinn Wilkinson Caden Brown, Mikenna DeSpain, Elizabeth Hansen, Davis Hawkins, Brennen Heaver, Dawsynn Kettman, Kaiden Lemke.

>>Bears Collapse In Fourth Quarter

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Bears gave up a 18-points in the fourth quarter of their 28-19 loss to the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field.  Chicago had a 19-10 lead heading into the final frame, but AJ Dillon scored a touchdown and Mason Crosby knocked in a field goal to give the Packers a one-point lead.  Justin Fields threw an interception on Chicago’s next drive, and the Bears gave up a touchdown to Christian Watson with under two minutes left in regulation.  Fields rushed for 71 yards and a score, but he also threw two picks.  The Bears have lost their last six games to fall to 3-and-10.  Chicago has a bye next week and will take on Philadelphia on December 18th. 

 

>>Bulls Fall To Kings Despite LaVine’s Big Night

(Sacramento, CA)  —  Zach LaVine’s 41 points weren’t enough for the Chicago Bulls in a 110-101 loss to the Sacramento Kings at Golden 1 Center.  Chicago never led after the first quarter, but the Bulls did get within one point in the fourth quarter before Sacramento pulled away.  DeMar DeRozan added 18 points in the losing effort.  The Bulls are on a three-game losing streak and have fallen to 9-and-14.  Chicago hosts Washington on Wednesday. 

 

>>Blackhawks Get Blanked

(Elmont, NY)  —  The Chicago Blackhawks couldn’t get the puck past Semyon Varlamov in a 3-0 loss to the New York Islanders at UBS Arena.  Chicago surrendered three goals in the second period and was out-shot 40-21 in the game.  The Blackhawks have dropped nine of ten.  Chicago is in last place in the Central Division with 18 points and a 7-13-and-4 record.  The Blackhawks visit the Devils tomorrow night.

 

>>Notre Dame, Illinois Earn Bowl Game Spots

(Undated)  —  The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Illinois Fighting Illini both learned their bowl game fates yesterday.  Number-21 Notre Dame will take on number-19 South Carolina in the Gator Bowl.  The game will be played in Jacksonville on December 30th.  Meanwhile, the Illini take on number-22 Mississippi State in the ReliaQuest Bowl.  The bowl game, which was previously called the Outback Bowl, will be played in Tampa on January 2nd. 

 

>>Fighting Illini Basketball Falls To Maryland

(College Park, MD)  —  Number-17 Illinois dropped its Big Ten opener to number-22 Maryland 71-66 at Xfinity Center on Friday.  The Fighting Illini were within a point with just over a minute left in regulation, but Jahmir Young hit a clutch three for the Terps with 14 seconds left to put the contest out of reach.  Terrence Shannon Jr. poured in 19 points in the losing effort.  The Illini drop to 6-and-2 overall and 0-and-1 in the Big Ten.  They take on number-two Texas in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden tomorrow.

 

>>Northwestern Basketball Upsets Michigan State

(East Lansing, MI)  —  The Northwestern Wildcats knocked off number-20 Michigan State 70-63 to begin Big Ten play at Breslin Events Center.  The Spartan made it a three-point game with 25 seconds left, but Northwestern made four consecutive free throws to seal the win.  Boo Buie led the team with 20 points, and Chase Audige scored 15.  The Wildcats improved to 6-and-2 overall and 1-and-0 in the Big Ten.  The Wildcats host Prairie View A&M on December 11th.

 

>>Notre Dame Basketball Loses To Syracuse

(South Bend, IN)  —  The Notre Dame Fighting Irish fell to Syracuse in the final minute of a 62-61 loss at Joyce Center on Saturday.  The Irish gave up a go-ahead lay-up to Judah Mintz with 14 seconds left in regulation, and Dane Goodwin missed the game-winning shot at the buzzer.  Goodwin led the team with 1 points in the losing effort.  The 6-and-2 Irish are now 0-and-1 in the ACC.  Notre Dame goes up against Boston University on Wednesday.

 

>>College Basketball Wrap-Up

(Undated)  —  In college basketball action on Friday, Northern Illinois was crushed by Idaho 84-47.  On Saturday, Bradley took down Missouri State 58-40, and  On Sunday, Illinois State pulled out an 87-77 victory against Belmont.

>>One-Time Cub Fred McGriff Chosen For MLB Hall Of Fame

(Undated)  —  Former Cubs first baseman Fred McGriff has been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the contemporary era committee.  McGriff received 16 out of 16 possible votes for the nod.  He will be inducted into Cooperstown in July next year.  McGriff spent the second half of 2001 and all of 2002 with the Cubs.  He hit 42 home runs and drove in 144 RBI during his 195-game stint in Chicago.  The five-time All-Star also notably fell seven home runs shy of 500 for his career
