Illinois Congresswoman Lauren Underwood is the second African American woman to win a post on the House Democratic Leadership team. She was voted to one of three co-chair positions on the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee. Representative Shirley Chisholm, who became the first African American woman voted to Congress in 1969, was secretary of the Democratic Caucus. The new House term starts in January.
