As of Wednesday, at least 82 children will receive Christmas gifts through the Peru Police Departments Blue and Red Christmas for Kids program. Police Chief Sarah Raymond says starting today police officers and other volunteers will be shopping for clothing and toys. The gifts will be wrapped in early December and will be sent to the kids by December 14th. Raymond says this is the seventh year the department is helping children in need receive gifts for the holidays. She says the police department gets the information about the kids through the school district.

She says it’s wonderful to see the look on a child’s face when he or she receives that Christmas gift.

She says the program is always looking for donations and volunteers to help shop for the kids. Police officers and other volunteers will be shopping for the items at the Peru Walmart. They will also go to Target on Wednesday.
