In Local Sports, On Saturday in opening round of IESA Regional play, the 7th Grade Lady Rams defeated #6 seed Shorewood Troy 29-11. Kennedy Kane had 13 points, Chloe Thrush had 10 points, and Leela Gromm 6 points. In Round 2 of the IESA Regional #3 seed Lady Rams lost to #2 seed Minooka 21-15. Kennedy Kane 15 points and Chloe Thrush had 4 points. The 7th Graders finished the season with a record of 14-12. In girls high school hoops the Serena Lady Huskers fell to Amboy last night 37-27. Makayla McNally led the way with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Paisley Twait added 10 points as well. Seneca defeated Midland last night 43-27. Kennedy Hartwig and Faith Baker both had 12 points in the winning effort. Morris also defeated Streator last night 45-12.  In high school boys hoops, Newark defeated Serena 51-48. Cam Figgens and Richie Armour led the way for Serena with 10 points apiece. Princeton defeated Streator 60-44. Christian Benning scored 21 points in the losing effort.  The Lasalle-Peru Cavaliers fell to Oak Forest 48-46. The Ottawa Pirates defeated Marengo 60-44. Cooper Knoll led the way with 13 points and 10 rebounds. His brother Peyton Knoll added 12 points and six rebounds of his own. Levi Sheehan added 10 points as well in the win. Tonight at the Dean Riley Shootin’ The Rock Tournament Ottawa will play Thornridge at 6:30 and you can hear that game right here on 1430 WCMY and 93.5 FM. The Streator Bulldogs will also be in action following the Ottawa game at 8:00 when they play Oak Forest.

 

>>Bulls Take Down Celtics

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Chicago Bulls led for the final three quarters of their 121-107 win over the Boston Celtics at United Center.  Chicago led by as many as 21 points in the victory.  DeMar DeRozan led the way with 28 points, and Zach LaVine chipped in with 22.  The Bulls snapped Boston’s nine-game winning streak with the victory, and they improved to 7-and-10.  Chicago is at Milwaukee tomorrow night. 

 

>>Report: Fields Dealing With Dislocated Shoulder

(Lake Forest, IL)  —  The Chicago Bears may be without their star quarterback for the foreseeable future.  Ian Rapoport is reporting that Justin Fields dislocated his non-throwing shoulder during Chicago’s loss to the Falcons on Sunday.  Head coach Matt Eberflus told reporters yesterday that Fields will be day-to-day.  The 23-year-old quarterback has taken a major step forward this year, throwing for 13 touchdowns while adding 834 rushing yards and seven rushing scores.  The Bears are at the Jets this Sunday.

>Six Chicago MLB Players Earn Hall Of Fame Nomination

(Undated)  —  The Cubs and White Sox are both well-represented on the 2023 Baseball Hall of Fame ballot.  Former Cubs starting pitcher John Lackey earned his first nomination, and he joins former White Sox players Mark Buehrle, Manny Ramirez, Jimmy Rollins, Andruw Jones, and Omar Vizquel.  Lackey spent two seasons with the Cubs and helped them end their century-long World Series drought in 2016.  Buehrle is the only Southsider to spend more than two seasons with the White Sox, and he earned under six-percent of the vote in his second appearance on the ballot last year.  The results of the Hall of Fame voting will be announced on January 24th. 

 

>>Fighting Irish Basketball Hosts Bowling Green

(South Bend, IN)  —  The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will try to stay undefeated when they host Bowling Green at Joyce Center tonight.  Notre Dame is 4-and-0 after beating Lipscomb 66-65 last Friday.  Tonight’s game tips off at 5:30 PM Central time. 

>>Wildcats Basketball Takes On Liberty

(Cancun, Mexico)  —  The Northwestern Wildcats go for their fifth-straight win when they take on Liberty at the Cancun Challenge tonight.  The Wildcats beat Purdue-Fort Wayne 60-52 last Friday to improve to 4-and-0 on the season.  Tonight’s game gets underway at 7:30 PM.

(Undated)  —  In college basketball action yesterday, Illinois State was defeated by LSU 77-61.  Today, Bradley takes on number-16 Auburn, Illinois State goes up against Western Kentucky, Northern Illinois faces Sam Houston.
