Salvation Army’s giant red kettle isn’t just for show

By WCMY News Nov 23, 2022 | 11:12 AM

When Salvation Army volunteers ring bells for the annual fundraiser, they take small red kettles with them. That’s the kind of kettle you probably put money in if you supported the cause when there was a bell ringer outside Handy Foods in Ottawa. It gives the impression that the giant kettle outside the store is just for show. Lt. Wayne Strayer says it’s a real fundraising collection pot too.

Strayer says there are chutes inside it to channel the money into a bucket that’s removed periodically.
