The Streator City Council says no to a tax increment financing agreement for an Arby’s restaurant. Streator Equity Group of Burr Ridge bought the former Gautschy’s Corner car repair shop site at Oakley Ave. and Bloomington St. It asked for the chance to get TIF funds to cover the costs of redeveloping it.

Mayor Tara Bedei was the only supporter when it went to the City Council for a vote last night. Council member Matt McMullen said he didn’t see an advantage to using such funds for a restaurant that’s not going to draw many customers from outside the city.

While the council members gave no votes, a man in the audience said, “Fools”.
