The city of Streator is asking for more money in next year’s tax levy. Last year the city got about $4.2 million and this year they are asking for about $4.4 million. City Manager David Plyman says two areas that aren’t changing are the police and fire pensions. He says the pensions have been underfunded for several years and the city could be requested to give less. But he recommends not doing that. Although he is recommending that the city council increase the levy amount, home values in LaSalle County are supposed to go down. The biggest increase in the tax levy requested is for fire protection which is up by $58,000.
