The Canal Corridor Association will start a year-long series of presentations for the Illinois and Michigan Canal’s 175th anniversary in April next year. Association President Ana Koval wants people to start sending in stories about how life used to be in the canal towns. They’ll be presented during the anniversary year.
Among the topics she’s interested in are women’s lives during those early years and Native American stories concerning the canal’s creation. You can go to theI & M Canal National Heritage Area website to submit ideas and information.
