No kitten, LaSalle County Board encourages spaying and neutering cats through rabies tag rates

By WCMY News Nov 4, 2022 | 6:02 AM

It was hard to tell sometimes while members talked about it yesterday, but the LaSalle County Board is serious about spaying and neutering cats and vaccinating them against rabies. Member Craig Emmett asked about dogs that identify as cats. Jerry Myers said there should be birth control classes for cats. Both voted for the ordinance raising rabies tag fees for dogs in 2023 and setting tag prices for cats for the first time.

It’ll be $6 per year for a sterile cat and $16 for one that’s not. For dogs, the fees rises from $10 to $12 per year for a sterile animal and from $20 to $22 per year for one that’s intact. There are one-year and three-year vaccination options.

Board member Randy Freeman thinks the county’s going about managing the cat population wrong.

The ordinance takes effect January 1st.

Correction: The price for dog registrations has been corrected.
