The man arrested at the end of a ten-hour standoff in Sheridan Saturday appears likely to stay behind bars while he faces charges. Fifty-five year old Jeffrey L. Plique told a public defender today, he can’t post anything for bond. If he does, it must be $300,000, which is 10% of the $3 million bond Judge Michael C. Jansz set Monday afternoon.

Plique could get up to 60 years in prison on the charges, if convicted. Those charges are aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated battery with a firearm. He’s accused of shooting a man in the leg and shooting at another man’s car.

In court this afternoon, Plique started offering the reason for the trouble he’s accused of. Judge Jansz stopped him because Plique hasn’t hired a lawyer yet. Plique said he intends to hire a private lawyer. The LaSalle County Public Defender’s Office will take the case if he doesn’t. Plique is to return to court November 10th.
