The weekend kicks off with the end of the regular season for high school football. Tonight on WCMY The Marquette Crusaders look to get a road win at Sherrard to improve their playoff ranking. 

 

Listen to 95.3 JackFM when Ottawa hosts Woodstock at King Field. This is a must win for the Pirates for a chance to advance to the playoffs. Both games are scheduled to start at 7pm.

 

Other games scheduled for tonight, LP is at Kaneland, Morris travels to Sycamore, Seneca hosts Dwight, Streator is home to face Coal City, Hall versus Bureau Valley and St Bede is at Mendota.

 

At the IHSA Class 1A Girls Tennis State Tournament The Ottawa Lady Pirates team of Jenna Smithmeyer and  Rylee O’Fallon completed opening day with a 3-1 record and advanced to today’s competition. Partners Isabel Heimsoth and Emma Walker finished their season going 0-2 in the opening round.

 

Also for Ottawa in singles, Emma Cushing ended her strong performance season with an 1-2 record on the first day of the tournament.

 

Yesterday in Varsity Volleyball

Marquette defeated Dwight in two matches. Top performers for the Lady Cru were Maera Jimenez, Lindsey Kaufmann, Eva McCallum, Avery Durdan and Kaylee Killelea.

 

Newark won on the road at Geneseo. Kiara Wesseh, Taylor Kruser, and  Lauren Ulrich led the way for the Lady Norseman

 

Somonauk lost at home to Mooseheart in two matches. Josie Rader led th eLady Red Raiders with six kills and 14 digs.

 

The LP Lady Cavaliers were winners at Sandwich. Katie Sowers had six kills and Brooklyn Ficek added seven digs in the victory.

 

The Ottawa Lady Pirates lost at Rochelle in two sets.

 

Marquette Academy won at home over Flanagan 44-9 in Girls Junior High Basketball.  Anna Hjerpe led the Lady Knights with 19 points.

 

Playoffs in Major League Baseball

The Houston Astros held on to beat the Yankees 3-2 in Game Two. The Astros lead the series 2-0.  The Philadelphia Phillies host the Padres today as they look to take back the edge in the NLCS. That series is tied at one.  

 

On Thursday Night Football,The Cardinals’ defense came up with a pair of pick-sixes before halftime as Arizona held on to beat the Saints 42-34. The Cardinals improved to 3-and-4,New Orleans fell to 2-and-5.

 

The Bears are off Sunday and will head to New England to play the Patriots on Monday Night Football.

 

Other NFL News the San Francisco 49ers have acquired Pro Bowl running back Christian McCaffrey from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for draft picks.  

 

The Bulls look for their second-straight win when they visit the Washington Wizards at Capital One Arena tonight.  The Bulls won their season-opener against Miami on Wednesday to begin the season with a 1-and-0 record.   

 

The Blackhawks are at home for the first time this season. The Hawks host the Detroit Red Wings at United Center tonight.  

 

This weekend in college football, Notre Dame is home to face UNLV, Northwestern travels to Maryland, The NIU Huskies are on the road to take on Ohio and The ISU Redbirds are at Indiana State.  

 

Over in the PGA, A pair of golfers are on top of the leaderboard after the first round of the CJ Cup in South Carolina. Trey Mullinax and Gary Woodland are tied for first place.

 

The NASCAR Playoff field continues this weekend as the racers head to Miami for the Dixie Vodka 400.
