The Ottawa Elementary School District could get up to $50,000 from a grant through the Illinois State Board of Education. Supt. Michelle Lee says some of the money from the matching grant would be used to replace the intercom systems at Jefferson Elementary and Shepherd Middle Schools because they are old and outdated. Jefferson Elementary would also get new clocks and possibly a new phone system that would allow every teacher to have a phone at their desk. The school board Tuesday approved applying for the grant. They also approved looking for bids for the intercom project.
