There is still frustration from LaSalle aldermen about the future of the Maytag Building and the Kaskaskia Hotel. Alderman Jim Bacidore said Monday that he called a possible contractor that was brought up at previous meetings and could start turning the Maytag Building into a brewery and restaurant. He says they told him that there was no plan to start any such project. Although he says the contractor had done some work before. Alderman Jerry Reynolds, who is the liaison between the city and company CL Enterprises, says other contractors don’t want to place a bid. He says bad publicity is making contractors scared.

Alderman T. “Boo” Herndon says hearing from the public, the taxpayers are behind the city of LaSalle and want to see something done. But he also says the council isn’t exactly being told the entire truth. Bacidore also explained Monday that he doesn’t want to see a sidewalk be replaced in front of the Kaskaskia Hotel because nothing has been done. He says other sidewalks are in bad shape and should be done first.

Mayor Jeff Grove says it’s part of the city’s sidewalk replacement program and the city needs a safe area for people to walk down.
