Multiple Results in Varsity Volleyball

Marquette won a thriller at home over St Bede in three matches. Top performers for the Lady Cru were Lilly Craig, Kaylee Killelea, Eva McCallum, Lindsey Kaufmann, Jaida Pitts and Lauren Machetta. 

 

The JV squad also defeated the Bruins at Bader Gym, Avery Durdan led the way with 14 kills, Makayla Backos and Lilia Muffler added six kills.

 

Newark finished in second place at the Bradley-Bourbonnais Tournament. The Lady Norseman were led by Kiara Wesseh 28 kills, eight aces and Lauren Ulrich 15 kills.

 

Earlville finished sixth at the Plano Tournament.  Brooklyn Guelde had 48 assists and Nevaeh Sansone added 24 kills for the Lady Red Raiders.

 

The Serena Huskers were winners at Seneca in three matches.  

 

LP won at home over Sterling in two matches. Leading the way for the Lady Cavaliers were Jayden Dyke, Addison Urbanski and Brooklyn Ficek. Head Coach Mark Haberkorn now has 999 career wins. He will go for milestone win No. 1,000 tonight against the Lady Pirates at Kingman Gym.

 

The LP / Ottawa CO-OP swim team  won on the road at a three-team meet. Winners for LPO: Addy Nance won the 500 freestyle ,Evvie Jeppson claimed the 50 freestyle and Clara Guglielmetti took first in the 200 freestyle.  Jeppson, Nance, Guglielmetti and Lily Mustered won the 400-yard freestyle relay.

 

Postseason in the MLB

The American League Division Series will finally be settled today.  The Yankees and Guardians will meet for Game Five today after Monday’s game was postponed due to inclement weather. The winner advances to face the Astros in the ALCS.  Elsewhere, the Padres and Phillies are facing off tonight in Game One of the NLCS in San Diego.  

 

Last night on Monday Night Football,Dustin Hopkins hit the game-winning 39 yard field goal in overtime as the San Diego Chargers edged the Denver Broncos 19-16. The Chargers improved to 4-2, The Broncos dropped to 2-4 with the loss. 

 

The NBA regular season tips off tonight with The defending champion Golden State Warriors will be raising their banner in front of the Los Angeles Lakers.  The Boston Celtics host one of their division rivals the Philadelphia 76ers.  The Chicago Bulls start their season tomorrow against the Heat in Miami.
