Streator’s wastewater treatment plant could be getting solar panels. City Manager David Plyman says City Engineer Jeremey Palm knows someone that works with a company that installs solar panels at sewer plants. Palm says the company called Clean Design Energy Group would install, maintain, and operate the system at the plant. He says the panels would generate 67% of the power to the plant.

Plyman says it would be beneficial for the city to be on the right side of sustainability but there are some concerns if the there needs to be any major physical moves to the plant.

Palm says the solar panels would save the city at least $660,000, although the company said it could be as much as $1.5 million over twenty five years. Palm also says the city would have to pay about $2.1 million for the entire program over twenty-five years.
