Funds for Tonica but not for Mendota in county’s pandemic relief decision

The village of Tonica will get $420,000 in pandemic relief money for tennis courts, pickle ball courts, and parking lot work. But the city of Mendota won’t get $200,000 to install running water in the Lake Mendota restrooms. LaSalle County Board members made those decisions yesterday afternoon.

Mendota member Joanne McNally feels the city’s being shortchanged.

Ottawa member Douglas Trager raised the objection and voted against funding for both projects.

Some members noted that Mendota is getting $1.1 million in pandemic relief money based on population while Tonica is getting $117,000.

In another vote, the board approved $100,000 per year for three years for the Illinois Valley YMCA to cover memberships for low-income residents.
