Results yesterday in High School Sports

Ottawa defeated Morris in Varsity Tennis. Emma Cushing won in singles. The team of Jenna Smithmyer & Rylee O’Fallon, partners Emma Walker & Isabel Heimsoth and the duo of Mika Moreland & Mackenzie Eichelkraut each won in doubles.

 

The LP / Ottawa varsity swim team won at home over Morris. Individual winners for LPO were Addy Nance, Kailey Goetsch,  Clara Guglielmetti,  Lily Mustered and Lily Miller. Relay team winners were Miller, Nance, Goetsch, Mustered, Guglielmetti, Evvie Jeppson and Evelyn Clayton.

 

Multiple results in Volleyball

At the  “Volley for Vets” fundraiser Ottawa lost at home to Morris. Top performers for the Lady Pirates were Ryleigh Stevenson, Haley Waddell, Olivia Evola, Lauren Denny and Skylar Dorsey.

 

Streator lost to Coal City in two matches. Ellie Isermann had 4 kills, 1 block and Sophia Pence finished with 3 kills, 2 blocks in the Lady Bulldogs loss.

 

Woodland won at home over Dwight in their annual “Play for the Cure Night” fundraiser event. Top performers for the Lady Warriors were Shae Simons, Kaleigh Benner, Cloee Johnston and Emma Highland.

 

Seneca were winners over Roanoke-Benson. The Lady Irish was led by Sophie Cato with 12 kills.

 

Marquette defeated Putnam County to clinched the Tri County Conference season Championship.

 

In Junior high Girls basketball, Marquette won at Marseilles 46-3. Anna Hjerpe led the Lady Knights with 17 points.

Major League Baseball playoffs officially begin today with four Wild Card games.  The action gets started in Cleveland when the Guardians host the Tampa Bay Rays.  The Phillies and Cardinals will clash in St. Louis, while the Mariners and Blue Jays battle in Toronto. The final game of the night features the Padres and Mets in New York.  All Wild Card series are best out of three. 

 

On Thursday Night Football, The Indianapolis Colts stopped the Broncos on fourth-and-1 in overtime to win 12-9 in Denver.    

 

The Chicago Bears visit their divisional rivals the Vikings at The U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday.  The 2-and-2 Bears are coming off a Week Four loss to the Giants.   

 

This weekend in College Football, 

Notre Dame go for their third consecutive win when they take on #16 BYU in the Shamrock Series in Las Vegas. The Fighting Illini will try to make it four wins in a row when they host Iowa at Memorial Stadium, Illinois is 4-and-1. Northwestern will try to avoid their fifth-straight loss when they host Wisconsin at Ryan Field. Northern Illinois will hosts Toledo and the ISU Redbirds are at Northern Iowa,  

 

The Blackhawks lost to the Minnesota Wild 4-1 in a NHL preseason game at the Xcel Energy Center.  The Hawks wrap up the preseason with a game against the Blues tomorrow night.

 

The Chicago Bulls are back at United Center to take on the Nuggets in their second NBA preseason game tonight. The Bulls lost to New Orleans on Tuesday.

 

The Chicago Fire finish up their season with a match against New England at SeatGeek Stadium on Sunday. The Fire are in 12th place in the MLS Eastern Conference with ten wins, eight draws, and 15 losses. 

 

The Playoffs in the NASCAR Cup Series heads to Charlotte this weekend for the Bank of America Roval 400.
