A man who runs a convenience store in LaSalle isn’t getting a liquor license for a store in Oglesby. The city council’s concerned about an item called a glass rose sold at J. Patel’s 351 Mini Mart. Commissioner Jason Curran last night showed the council a glass tube with a bulb on one end and a plastic fiber rose inside.

Mayor Dominic Rivara had trouble accepting that it’s a novelty item and not a drug pipe.

Patel’s attorney Cote Klinefelter tried to assure the council nothing would be wrong.

The vote against Patel’s liquor license was unanimous.

Oglesby City Commissioner Jason Curran shows the City Council the “glass rose” he bought at J. Patel’s 351 Mini Mart in LaSalle. It resembles a crack pipe. Patel’s attorney says his client is unaware of its use as anything but a novelty item.
