LaSalle County Circuit Clerk Greg Vaccaro is trying to make police officers’ jobs easier. Last week he offered the Peru Police Department a $12,000 check to install software called Digiticket into some of their police cars. The software is supposed to make it easier for police to write tickets. A police officer would only have to scan a driver’s license and the system fills in the blanks.
He also says its saves time on travel. Officers have to travel from Peru to Ottawa everyday to drop of tickets.
It’s also better for his office because he says sometimes they have to give tickets back because they can’t read an officers handwriting.
Peru police would try it out for sixty days. If they decide to keep it Vaccaro says it can be $300 to $600 a month depending on the squad car. He also says Illinois State Police and some LaSalle County Sheriffs already use it and it will probably become state law in the next four to five years.
