As the tennis, basketball, and pickle ball courts are getting finished, Ottawa City Hall is lining up more work at Thornton Park. City Commissioner Marla Pearson says the old brick pavers need to go. She says it’s not good for the rest of the park to look so nice now while the crumbling pavers remain.

The Ottawa City Council last night approved an $18,708 contract with Grand Rapids Enterprises for excavation and landscaping and a $24,000 contract with Ruiz Construction for a sidewalk. That money will come from the city’s Thornton Park fund. It wasn’t part of the grant application for the park work.

The city has until December to use the money it got from a state grant for the park. Pearson says the city will make the deadline.

Basketball hoops await installation at Thornton Park where new asphalt was laid for basketball, pickle ball, and tennis courts.
