Ottawa hires firm for fire department grant help

Ottawa City Hall will try for a grant to hire more fire fighters. Fire Chief Brian Bresner says the city should have 27 but has 23. Commissioner James Less says the Lexipol firm, which the council approved hiring yesterday, will write a grant application for a grant called SAFER.

After three years, the city would be expected to cover the employee costs. Lexipol will also apply for grants for air packs the fire fighters use. The company isn’t preparing a grant for building an additional fire station. Fire Chief Brian Bresner says there are no grants for that. He wants to focus on getting the personnel level up first.
