Ottawa City Council members could vote tomorrow on the deal to sell the land where the PADS homeless shelter is to the PADS organization. Public Action to Deliver Shelter has been on the city-owned property at 1120 Canal St. for more than 20 years.
It’s outgrown the place and tried to get a permit for a new shelter on E. McKinley Rd. earlier this year. But south side residents didn’t want it in their neighborhood. Mayor Dan Aussem vowed to help PADS find somewhere else. That place turned out to be where PADS is now. The city will demolish the current building and PADS will build a new one.
The special meeting is scheduled for 5pm Tuesday at City Hall.
