An agreement’s on file for the city of Ottawa to help with the Nells Woodland 60-acre nature preserve. Mayor Dan Aussem says the city’s paying $20 to lease the land for 20 years. And the city will pay up to $25,000 per year for maintenance. The private developer has built a road to the city’s specifications instead of leaving that up to the city.
Nells Woodland is supposed to open to the public this year. It’s on Illinois 23 near Alexis Ave. and is somewhat like the Dayton Bluffs preserve.
