Streator FFA has done a lot to be one of the top ten finalists for a national FFA Model of Excellence Award next month. Chapter Vice President Alexis Walkling says the chapters were judged in three broad areas.
The chapter has done things like pancake breakfasts, food pantry donations, and mailings to legislators.
Her sister, FFA Plot Manager Joyce Walkling, says FFA brings agriculture into the classroom for students who don’t live on farms.
She gets to be an ambassador for the program.
The family’s been involved with FFA for decades. Even so, Chapter Sentinel Zach Walkling says it can be intimidating for some people at first.
He says FFA isn’t limited to what happens on farms, but he does a lot to inform people about that in the 20 or more hours a week he puts into it.
The national FFA convention will be in Indianapolis the week of October 26th.
