James L. Gill, 81 of Long Point passed away Thursday (September 1, 2022) at his home.
Per his request, there will be no services. The Winterrowd Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Jim was born on January 2, 1941, in Streator to Lester and Edna (Herb) Gill. He married Mary Carlson Carpenter on March 13, 1986. She survives.
Also surviving are children, Lori Shamburger of Broken Arrow, OK, Andy (Angie) Gill of Oswego, Cindy (Gary) Wheeler of Streator, Steve Gill of Long Point, and his bonus daughter Darcy (Greg) Mitchell of Mendota, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, brother Ronald (Gloria) Gill of Moran, KS, sister Marna (David) Elias of Rockford, several nieces and nephews and his beloved pets Zeke and Zoe.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son in law Scott Shamburger, sisters Shirley Reick and Carol Gueldenhaar.
Jim graduated from Woodland High School in 1959. He formerly worked for Standard Oil and Amoco Oil and later owned Gill Oil Co in Long Point. After retirement he did body work, painting, and sandblasting.
Jim enjoyed fishing, visiting his neighbors, and taking golf car rides throughout Long Point.
Memorials may be made in his name to either the Livingston County Humane Society or Pet Project.
