Update: Bond was set at $50,000 in Sunday court. Ramey must put up 10% of that amount to get out of jail.

A 20-year old Mendota man is accused of strangling a puppy to death. LaSalle police found the dog wrapped in a garbage bag at a home in the 500 block of Bucklin St. Friday afternoon. The approximately four-month old female appeared to be a mix of German shepherd and blue heeler.

Police say Lucas R. Ramey told them he was tired of the dog defecating around the house. He’s in the LaSalle County jail to wait for bond to be set Sunday. Ramey is charged with aggravated animal cruelty.

Police Chief Michael Smudzinski said in a statement, “Animals do not ask for much in life other than human affection and a safe and sheltered home. This type of grotesque behavior needs to have consequences.”
