The 2022 Queen of the Mendota Sweet Corn Festival is adding to her accolades by receiving one of the LaSalle County Bar Association’s $500 scholarships. Board Scholarship Chairman Jim Reilly says Maya Martin of Mendota is currently enrolled at the Loyola University of Chicago and wants to get a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience. Although her ultimate career goal is to get a doctorate in neuropsychology and do research in neurodegenerative brain disease. While in high school she received a straight A average in Honors courses all four years of high school. She was also a class president, an Illinois State Scholar, and volunteered with “Feed My Starving Children” plus the Boys and Girls Club of America.
