The Ottawa Varsity team won the the L-P Golf Invitational at Senicas Oak Ridge Golf Course.  The Pirates’ Drake Kaufman led all golfers scoring a 68, Jonathan Cooper finished in 3rd with a 74.

 

In girls golf

Ottawa defeated Coal City and the home team Pontiac in a triangular matchup. Hannah Duggan, Marlie Orlandi, Payton Nodland and Payton Bruck led the way for the Lady Pirates.

 

Seneca were winners over Roanoke-Benson and their host Dwight in a TCC triangular event. Top golfers for the Lady Irish were Julia Hogan, Addison Stiegler and Jessica Bertrang.  

 

LP were winners at Steator in girls varsity tennis. Carlie Miller and Rylee Waite were winners in singles. The team of Ava Lannen and Emmie Hachenberger and the duo of Izzy Pohar and Kaylie Reese won in doubles for the Lady Cavaliers.

Elsewhere in Sports

 

The White Sox were knocked around during a 21-5 loss to the Houston Astros at Guaranteed Rate Field.  The team gave up 25 hits and four home runs in the losing effort.  Lucas Giolito was charged with his seventh loss after giving up seven runs in three innings.  The Sox drop two-and-a-half games behind Cleveland for first place in the AL Central at 61-and-58. 

 

In other team news, infielder Leury Garcia is on the 10-day injured list after He suffered a lower back strain.  The Sox recalled Romy Gonzalez from Triple-A Charlotte to fill Garcia’s roster spot.  They also signed shortstop Elvis Andrus to replace All-Star Tim Anderson, who will be out for about five more weeks after finger surgery

 

Willson Contreras hit two home runs as the Cubs edged the Orioles 3-2 in Baltimore.  Adrian Sampson pitched five and two thirds scoreless innings to earn the win for the Cubs, who are 50-and-67. The Nort-Siders return home to host the Brewers for a weekend series.  Keegan Thompson makes the start for the Cubs tonight.

 

The Cardinals crushed the Colorado Rockies 13-0 at Busch Stadium.  Albert Pujols launched a pinch-hit grand slam for the 690th home run of his career, while Adam Wainwright held Colorado to three hits over seven scoreless innings to earn his ninth win. The Cards hold a three-game lead over Milwaukee at 66-and-51.  Miles Mikolas starts for St. Louis in Arizona tonight.

 

The Chicago Bears are now 2-and-0 in the preseason after topping the Seahawks 27-11 in Seattle.  The Bears close out the preseason against the Cleveland Browns a week from Saturday. 

 

 

The Chicago Sky are facing elimination in the first round of the WNBA playoffs tomorrow.  The Sky takes on the New York Liberty in Game Two of the best-of-three series at Wintrust Arena.   

 

The Chicago Fire will try to get back into the win column when they host New York City at SeatGeek Stadium on Sunday.  The Fire are coming off a 4-1 loss to Philadelphia last Saturday.  

 

Keegan Bradley is  on top of the leaderboard after the first round of the PGA’s BMW Championship in Wilmington Delaware. 

 

The Big Ten Conference made a seven billion dollar TV rights deal official. Beginning with next year’s athletic season, Big Ten sports will be seen on Fox, CBS and NBC for the next seven years.  This ends a four decade run between the conference and ESPN.
