For those considering careers as police officers, you could get your start in Ottawa. You have to be at least 21 years old and you can’t be older than 35. There are other requirements, such as having a POWER card, which can be obtained through Joliet Junior College. Police Chief Brent Roalson says there are several steps to go through to make sure you’re a good candidate.

The city’s application deadline is September 16th and it will give written tests on October 11th. Starting pay is about $61,000 a year. There’s more information at the city of Ottawa website.
