The city of Marseilles wants to improve Broadway Park. The city council approved considering a proposal from Hitchcock Design Group to develop the project. Mayor Jim Hollenbeck says the improvements would include updating playground equipment and basketball courts as well as adding a splash pad and possibly pickle ball courts. Hollenbeck says the city has been looking to add a splash pad and considered putting it in Knudson Park. But he says the city would rather keep that park as is.
The city is also trying to apply for an Open Space Land Acquisition and Development Grant to help pay for the park. The city is considered an economically distressed community because of past flooding and makes them qualified for it. But they might not get it in time before the application deadline closes.
The city could also have to match 10% of the $600,000 they are looking to get from the grant.
