For the third year in a row, there’s a surplus in the Ottawa High School education fund budget. Supt. Mike Cushing says it’s up to $1.5 million which will help OHS continue making up for 12 years of deficits. He says the surplus is driven, in part, by rising property values and therefore rising property tax revenue. A bigger factor is the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief, or ESSER funding.

Overall, it’s expected to cost $27 million to run Ottawa High School in the next school year. A budget hearing will be held September 19th.
