The White Sox rallied for three late runs to beat the Astros 4-3 at Guaranteed Rate Field. Gavin Sheets tied the game at three with a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh, and Yoan Moncada had a go-ahead single in the eighth. Jimmy Lambert earned his first win out of the bullpen, and Liam Hendriks picked up his 27th save. The Southsiders are now just a game out of first place in the AL Central with a 61-and-56 record.
The Cubs took down the Nationals 7-5 in an 11-inning contest at Nationals Park. Patrick Wisdom drove in the go-ahead run with a double in the 11th, and Seiya Suzuki added on with an RBI single. Brandon Hughes earned his second win in relief, Mark Leiter Jr. picked up his first save. The North-Siders have won four of six to improve to 48-and-67 and will send Drew Smyly to the mound against Washington this afternoon.
Tyler O’Neill wore one to lead the Cardinals to a 5-4 walk-off win over the Rockies at Busch Stadium. O’Neill was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to win the game. Paul Goldschmidt had tied the game at four two innings earlier with a sacrifice fly. Goldschmidt also had a two-run homer in the contest, and Tommy Edman added another home run. The Cards remain on top of the NL Central at 64-and-51. Jordan Montgomery starts for St. Louis against Colorado tonight.
The Chicago Sky continue their quest for back-to-back WNBA Championships when they take on the New York Liberty in game one of the first round at Wintrust Arena. The best-of-three series tips off tonight.
The Bears trimmed their roster down to its 85-man limit before yesterday’s deadline. The Bears cut safety Michael Joseph, cornerback Jayson Stanley, linebacker Javin White, tight end Rysen John, and linebacker Noah Dawkins. The team also placed center Doug Kramer on injured reserve and signed center Corey Dublin and safety Jon Alexander in free agency. The Bears visit the Seahawks in a preseason contest tomorrow.
The Blackhawks are adding some depth to their blue-line. The team reportedly signed veteran defenseman Jack Johnson to a one-year deal. Johnson is entering his 17th season in the NHL. The 35-year-old scored one goal and had eight assists for the Colorado Avalanche last season.
