OES District working with education initiative to provide more community engagement

Parents with students in the Ottawa Elementary School Districts will be getting more mail about what’s happening in the district. The school district agreed to sign an $110,000 contract with a company called Journey 12 to improve student, family, and community engagement. Founder Craig Williams says a program called the Engage Initiative will help tell stories about staff and students through a magazine delivered four times during this school year. He says the stories will have a positive impact on their peers.

Williams says the company has learned over the last several years that the best way to get attention of the local tax payer is to put a well designed and well told set of stories in their mailbox talking about local students, staff, alumni, and community members that they know. He says he will do a recorded interview the person for fifteen to twenty minutes when the person has time. After it’s done, Journey 12 will write and edit the story and put it in the magazine. The company will also deliver a postcard three times during the year talking about a specific topic being talked about in the district.

There will also be sponsorship opportunities for local businesses for the magazine. The company works with seven other districts around Illinois and Missouri. Anyone interested in learning about the company can find more information by clicking here.
