Three LaSalle County communities are getting grants from the state of Illinois for major improvements. Ottawa’s getting $3 million for a riverfront amphitheater. Utica’s getting almost $1.25 million to redevelop an empty lot into commercial space for small businesses. And Wenona’s getting almost $1 million for sidewalks, lighting, and charging stations. Gov. Pritzker’s office announced the grants Monday as part of a $106 million package for rebuilding downtowns and main streets across the state.

Utica Mayor David Stewart says the business plaza will be on Mill St. next to the Millstone tornado memorial. The village will put in a local match of $250,000.
