Two men killed in Grundy County crash

One truck driver was hurt in a crash that claimed two men’s lives in Grundy County Friday afternoon. State Police say a compact car and four tractor trailer trucks were involved.

It started when the car hit the back of a truck trailer in the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 between Morris and Seneca. The car crossed the median and hit a truck in the eastbound lanes. That truck went into the median, rolled over, and hit a truck in the westbound lanes. Another truck going eastbound ran into some crash debris.

State Police say the driver of the truck that turned over was sent to a hospital for treatment of injuries not believed to be life threatening. Coroner John Callahan says the car driver, 33-year old Sofiane Bessai of Elgin, and passenger 26-year old Brayan Mauricio Jimenez Velasquez of the country of Colombia, died in the crash.
