Sandwich Community Unit School District 430 is one of more than 100 districts dismissed from a lawsuit over mask and quarantine requirements. A Sangamon County judge ruled Friday that the case against the districts is moot because there are no such requirements currently in place. Parents of students in the districts filed the court case last year, claiming the schools had no authority to enforce such rules because the rules weren’t properly adopted at the state level.

Thirty-five school districts remain defendants. Judge Raylene DeWitte Grischow ruled Friday that in the districts where no mask and quarantine requirements are in place, the case is moot and Illinois courts don’t handle moot issues.

The case originated in Macoupin County last year and was transferred to Sangamon County where the state capital is.
