Streator resident wants city ordinance changed to allow hens

An ordinance in Streator doesn’t allow any livestock on property inside the city limits. Resident Robert Johnson wants to change that. He says he would like the city to add an exception for hens.

He says he would like to start off with three hens and then maybe more. The council says the ordinance allows for three or less hens but Johnson says it’s just an interpretation, which doesn’t make it clear that he can have the livestock. He spoke about the change at Streator’s Committee of the Whole meeting Tuesday.
