There will be some traffic changes in Ottawa for students and teachers returning to Ottawa High School for the new school year starting Tuesday. The Illinois Department of Transportation says beginning tomorrow, drivers should continue to use the right lane if they are going over Veterans Memorial Bridge on LaSalle St. or IL 23 southbound.
But drivers who are going to OHS should use the far-left lane. Drivers using Columbus St. or IL 23 northbound should expect police to control the intersection on Main St. during peak school traffic times. Traffic on E. Main St. will also not be allowed to continue westbound forty-five minutes before and after school starts. That will only happen until Tuesday, August 30th.
People walking over the bridge will also be affected. Pedestrians crossing on the south end should use the Center St crosswalk. Pedestrians crossing the north side should use the river walk under the bridge to reach the west side walk.
