Marseilles has taken the first step to replace the Sycamore Street and Washington Street bridges. The city council approved two proposals from Chamlin and Associates for preparing bridge condition reports for $5,000. City Engineer Mike Etscheid says with the condition reports, the city could apply for federal money to fix the bridges. The city lowered the weight limit allowed on the Sycamore St. Bridge because of deterioration. The deterioration is bad enough that vehicles like buses, garbage trucks, and delivery vehicles are warned not to drive on it. Etscheid says the Washington St. Bridge needs new beams because the current ones on the bridge aren’t the right size.
