Peru City Council discussing having security at Pistol Shrimp games

The Peru City Council is discussing whether the police department or private security should be at all future Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp games. Police Chief Robert Pyszka says there have been five incidents where the police needed to be called, most involving juveniles. One incident involved a juvenile having a knife in his pocket and a second involved two kids fighting over a cell phone. Pyszka says there was one thing that was different about last year’s season. Last year the team had their own security.

Alderman Aaron Buffo says he is in favor of some type of security at the games.

Pyszka says the team could reimburse the city if police officers are hired or they can rehire they’re own security. No decision has been made yet by the council. Last week the baseball team tried to make it so all people under the age of sixteen couldn’t be at the games without an adult. The decision was taken back after city officials cried foul. Pyszka says you can’t just ban juveniles from being at a park.
