A local police canine has been retired. The Ottawa Police Department says Gussy has been in service for nine years. But she has health problems that make it necessary to retire her. Gussy will continue to live with her handler, Sgt. Bud Nilles. The department’s announcement says Gussy’s passion for her work, especially fighting illegal drugs, will be missed. Police Chief Brent Roalson says the department’s next dog could arrive in early 2023.
