LaSalle City Hall roof could look more historically accurate

The roof being redone on LaSalle City Hall could look more historically accurate. The city council approved using synthetic slate roofing for the remodeling project. Alderman Tom Ptak says he wants to keep the integrity of the building which is why slate roofing is a good option.

The roofing is supposed to also include a fifty-year warranty, but that’s subject to change. The city also approved bid of less than $17,000 to add copper instead of aluminum in some of the valleys on the roof. Mayor Jeff Grove says the entire project is supposed to be completed by December 1st. Finance Director John Duncan said before that the project is needed because the roof is leaking and causing damage on the inside of city hall.

Sterling Commercial Roofing is working on the project for $300,000. The total is expected to be around $1.2 million but $600,000 is coming from federal COVID relief dollars the city received. After the city is done with the roof, they will start accepting bids for tuck pointing and masonry work around it.
