Jefferson Elementary School in Ottawa is getting a therapy dog. The Ottawa Elementary School Board approved getting the dog at Tuesday’s meeting. It would be donated through the United Way of Eastern LaSalle County.
Last month, Principal Nate Pinter and Social Worker Alecia Ruiz explained to the board that eleven percent of students at Jefferson are at risk for social and emotional functioning. The dog would be a golden doodle and would be taken care of by him or Ruiz depending on the dog’s gender.
