American Medical Response will staff the ambulance service for the city of Streator. The city council approved signing a three year contract with the medical company at Wednesday’s meeting. City Manager David Plyman reminded the council that the annual cost will vary by year.

The council also approved signing a five year contract with Northern Illinois Ambulance Billing of Mendota so the ambulance service will be profitable. But Plyman says it won’t be as profitable right away. He says that’s because of the cost of starting the ambulance service.

He says there are a few more steps the city needs to take before the ambulance service is fully run by the city. That will include signing a contract with the state and forming an intergovernmental agreement with other fire protection districts like Long Point, Redding, Cornell, and Ransom.
