John Walter Bartkus, 86, of Seneca, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at his home.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home with prayers at 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Seneca with Fr. Nicholas Wilson officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum at Oakwood Memorial Park in Ottawa.
John was born on January 11, 1940, in Chicago, IL, to Walter and Helen (Kaminski) Bartkus. In 1966, he married Katharine Bryja of Poland who survives.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Seneca. He was employed by Pepe’s Mexican Restaurant as a maintenance supervisor until his retirement. He was a longtime former resident of the South Side of Chicago. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
John is survived by his wife, Katharine; two sons, John (Connie) and Mike (Cindy) Bartkus; six grandchildren, Kimberly (James), Nicholas, Lindsey (Cephas), Chris, Tom (Katie), and Steve; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Nancy (Stan) Seitz; and many nieces & nephews, including, Jennifer (Bob) Gerich.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gene (Eileen) Bartkus; and one sister, Bernadine (John) Woods.
