Gordon Oren Alsvig, 96, of Ottawa, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Ottawa.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Ottawa with Rev. Randy Mortenson, officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Fox River Cemetery in Norway, IL with full military rites by the American Legion Post #33 Veteran’s Group Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa.
Gordon was born on January 5, 1930 in Norway, IL to Ole and Borghild (Naerland) Alsvig. He worked at Libbey Owens Ford in Naplate, was a farmer, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Gordon married Jean Boeder on September 23, 1961 in Chicago. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Ottawa.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Alsvig; six grandchildren, Deseray Alsvig, Shanna and Jeffery Sanders, and Christopher, Kyle and Cameron Damyen; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth Stephens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Borghild Alsvig; his wife, Jean Alsvig; two children, David Alsvig and Karen Alsvig; and one sister, Ardella Hatland.
